JSA Hero Atom Smasher Joins ‘Black Adam’ Movie

Atom Smasher

Actor Noah Centineo — best known for Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before — is joining the cast of Black Adam as Atom Smasher. Rumors have been circulating about the Justice Society of America somehow being featured in the movie, but this is the first solid confirmation in that area.

Atom Smasher debuted back in the 1980s series All-Star Squadron. The godson of the Golden Age Atom, his powers included the ability to alter his size and molecular density. He was featured prominently in the 2000s JSA revival, which also introduced the idea of an anti-hero Black Adam (instead of the all-out villain he’d previously been).

Whether Atom Smasher is the only JSAer in the movie remains to be seen, along with to what degree the movie will tie in to DCEU’s Shazam! In the meantime, other Society members can be found on the DC Universe’s Stargirl series.

Black Adam, featuring Dwayne Johnson in the title role, is still scheduled for December 2021 — though that will undoubtedly be moved due to the fact that filming hasn’t even begun. The film has been plagued by delays and false starts for years; let’s hope we finally see Johnson’s passion project on screens sometime in the not-too-distant future.
