Injustice: Gods Among Us might not be what you would consider a new game, as it was originally released back in 2013, but it’s still a hell of a game, taking Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm’s flair for supremely visceral fighting action and transplanting it into a slightly more family friendly world of capes and cowls.
It features dozens of familiar faces from all across DC Comics’ iconic catalogue – including the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Catwoman, Flash, Green Arrow, Nightwing, and Aquaman – and some equally iconic locations, and then brings them all together into an effective story mode that blends boisterous multiverse action, ample 2.5D battling, and mini-games. There’s also Battle Mode, Versus Mode, Training Mode, challenges, and online play.
Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition (which contains all DLC) will be free to download until 25th June, and will remain in your library indefinitely. The PC version is available on Steam and the PlayStation 4 version can be acquired via the PlayStation Store. No native Xbox One version is available, but owners of Microsoft’s console can download the backward-compatibility enabled original Xbox 360 game for free instead.
Game Summary:
In an alternate universe, the Joker tricks Superman into killing his pregnant wife Lois Lane, which detonates a nuclear weapon that destroys Metropolis and kills millions. This incident drives Superman over the edge, and he kills Joker in retaliation, which then causes him to grow more corrupt over time; he ultimately becomes a ruthless dictator, killing both criminals and those who oppose his methods, effectively erasing civil liberties. Alongside his totalitarian world government, the One Earth Regime, consisting of other Justice League members and villains who joined his cause, Superman rules as High Councillor, while Batman establishes the Insurgency to oppose his tyrannical regime.
Five years into Superman’s Regime, the Insurgency discovers a parallel universe where Joker’s plan failed, and teleports that world’s Justice League into their universe to stop the reign of Superman.
