Summary
The Dollhouse Family #6 features the ultimate showdown between Alice, Una, and the rest of the Family against that demon house and the demon who possesses it. Blood will be shed. It will be gruesome. Wear a washable coat, things are getting messy.
Positives
I pretty much loved everything about the entire run of this series but The Dollhouse Family #6 really brings it all together. Gross and Locke are simply horrifically spectacular. The gore is real and it is nasty. The images here are haunting. It was almost as if they wanted to make sure this could never be filmed in live action. Honestly, I am fine with that. Somethings are better inside the pages of comic and the events of this book are right where they belong.
Carey’s story comes together nicely. Alice is another excellent, strong female lead. Hill House is not messing around. If the message were not coordinated, I would be surprised, but even if it isn’t, I love what this book, and the entire run so far, says about what women can do and how they should be represented in comics. Bravo!
Negatives
I love a good time travel story, but this book was not a time travel story. That ending, not the last page ending, that was good, but the entire idea of the ending, seemed like a cheap way out of this story. I should take more than half a point off for it, but I just can’t bring myself to do that. I loved almost everything about this book. I didn’t see that coming and while, I don’t need to see everything coming, it at least needs to make sense.
Verdict
The Dollhouse Family #6 is the prefect ending for a nearly perfect mini-series. Everything at Hill House has been top notch and this book exemplifies it. The story telling has been evenly paced. The characters are likeable and not likeable exactly when they should be. The art is off the charts good. If you didn’t read this series, pre-order the trade right now.
