Honest Trailers Capture Birds of Prey
Honest Trailers, a parody site featuring one of the Internet’s most popular teams of media criticism, recently took aim at the DC Comics’ film Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
As much as I loved the film, no movie is perfect and anyone nitpicking it will definitely have issues with the final product.
Here’s their takedown of the flick that starred Margot Robbie as the titular Harley Quinn, fresh off of her breakup with the Joker and trying to carve her way through Gotham:
If you’re interested, here’s my initial review for this very site.
As I mentioned in my review, it’s not so much a Birds of Prey movie, but more of a “Harley Quinn finding herself” movie, something which many hardcore DC fans found to be an insult to the “Birds of Prey” title, especially since one of the original (and most popular) “Birds” Barbara Gordon does not appear. The film does feature Black Canary and the Huntress, played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, respectively.
If you have never heard of Honest Trailers, they have been around since 2012, taking aim at such high profile blockbusters like the 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and The Avengers. They have been nominated for numerous Emmy awards and some of their videos achieve more than 10 million views. Their Honest Trailer for Titanic was viewed over 41 million times.
Sometimes, filmmakers or actors from the films they are parodying appear in the Honest Trailer, such as Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts or Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds.
