Patty Jenkins Considering Wonder Woman Spinoff Focusing On The Amazons

Now that the first official trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 has hit the web and handily amazed us all, it certainly seems like opening weekend can’t arrive soon enough. But even before we begin shuffling into theaters, there’s nothing stopping us from pondering what stories lie beyond the highly anticipated sequel.

Believe it or not, Patty Jenkins is already cooking up ideas for a third installment – and possibly even a spinoff focusing on the Amazons. That’s right, we could one day be treated to a movie focusing squarely on the warrior culture which spawned Diana Prince in the first place.

Of course, there are no further details at this point, but the possibilities are endless. Given how the Amazons have been around for thousands of years, the story could take place in any time period. Plus, there are comic books such as The Odyssey of the Amazons which can be looked to for inspiration.

Then again, there’s no guarantee we’ll ever see such a thing, as we’re still waiting to hear more about the potential Aquaman spinoff spotlighting the Trench. Exploring a given superhero’s world minus that superhero is a gamble, sure, but there’s money to theoretically be made. I’m not sure if Krypton is a good example to cite because it was cancelled after only two seasons, but the Superman prequel series had its moments.

In the meantime, let’s take a look at what Jenkins had to say about the subject of a third mainline Wonder Woman flick:

“We actually already know the whole story to it. It’s just a matter of, will we change our minds, and when [to make it]. I think what we don’t want to do is do it back to back. It’s been great doing these two movies back to back, but I think it’s important to give it a little rest in between. And I like doing other things in between. And Gal has other things to do. I never want to make decisions too far in advance. We have to see if we both feel like making the movie we think we want to make when the moment comes.”

Wonder Woman 1984 arrives in theaters on June 5, 2020.
