Superman Year One Trailer

Superman Year One

DC produced a trailer for Superman: Year One similar to what they did for Batman Last Knight on Earth.

Superman Year One is the latest title to come out of DC’s Black Label line. Written by legendary writer, Frank Miller with art by John Romita, Jr.  It reveals the origin of the version of Superman that appears in The Dark Knight Returns. This is a non-canon, origin story that is not tied down by continuity like Superman: Earth One or Superman: Birthright. Therefore, it is not meant to redefine or reboot the main timeline origin story of Superman.

The official description is:

From the burning world of Krypton to the bucolic fields of Kansas, the first chapter of Superman Year One tracks Clark Kent’s youth in Kansas, as he comes to terms with his strange powers and struggles to find his place in our world. DC BLACK LABEL is proud to present the definitive origin of Superman as rendered by the legendary comics creators Frank Miller and John Romita Jr.!

The trailer uses animated imagery from all three issues of the prestige-format miniseries. It features familiar images seen in all versions of Superman’s origin. Scenes such as Kal-el’s ship escaping Krypton, Jonathon and Martha Kent finding baby Clark and Clark learning to fly. But it also reveals new ideas, such as Clark joining the military. You can check it below!

Despite not being tied to current continuity, it is interesting that this title would be released now. In Doomsday Clock #10 which was just released, it’s revealed that Superman is the center of what is known as the Metaverse. Any time there is a change to Superman, regardless of which universe, there is a ripple effect of changes that occur throughout the entire DC Universe. It doesn’t necessarily contradict anything, but the timing could not be more noteworthy because it could certainly lead to future stories that intersect.

Superman: Year One #1 is now available in print or digital formats.

Cameron Tevis

Hi, I'm Cameron Tevis and I've been a comic book, anime and film fan my entire life. While I like Marvel and anime my true love is DC Comics. My father, who was a fan himself, introduced me at a very young age to the amazing characters in DC (especially Hal Jordan Green Lantern). I think it's a fantastic time to be a comic book fan and I'm happy I get to write about the company that I love so much. Besides being a DC fan, I am a designer and I recently started a comic book series of my own called Event Cycle 6 published through Aporian Comics. I recently wrote and directed a short film "The Misadventures of Harley Quinn". And most importantly I am now a father to my beautiful daughter Arya Jade!
