The Suicide Squad May Have Found Their King Shark

Rooker as King Shark

Director James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has been making casting headlines everywhere. It started with the announcement that Will Smith was out as Deadshot due to a scheduling conflict. At the time that seemed like a nail in the coffin for the franchise. Fortunately, that changed when it was reported that Edris Elba was cast to replace him.

In the beginning it was reported that Elba would play Deadshot, but that news soon changed. Reports then stated that Elba would play a new character instead. But as of now, that character has yet to be revealed.  Most assume he will take on the role of the Bronze Tiger. Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Viola Davis are set to return to reprise their roles.  Joel Kinnaman is said to be returning as well, but that isn’t official yet. Recently Dave Bautista was offered the role of The Peacemaker but eventually passed and John Cena was given the role.

Now Michael Rooker is said to be in talks to play the villainous King Shark. As most people know, Gunn worked with Rooker in both of Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy films. In those films, Rooker portrayed the villain known as Yondu.  But beyond that, Gunn and Rooker had also worked together on The Belko Experiment, Slither and Super. After working together so frequently. it’s safe to assume the two have a great working relationship. This most likely means Rooker has the role of King Shark on lockdown. That is of course salary and scheduling negotiations are not met with any serious conflicts.

King Shark is an very large character so he may be a CGI character that Rooker supplies the voice for. But considering Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s Killer Croc was make-up and practical effects in the first Suicide Squad film, anything is possible.

Cameron Tevis

Hi, I'm Cameron Tevis and I've been a comic book, anime and film fan my entire life. While I like Marvel and anime my true love is DC Comics. My father, who was a fan himself, introduced me at a very young age to the amazing characters in DC (especially Hal Jordan Green Lantern). I think it's a fantastic time to be a comic book fan and I'm happy I get to write about the company that I love so much. Besides being a DC fan, I am a designer and I recently started a comic book series of my own called Event Cycle 6 published through Aporian Comics. I recently wrote and directed a short film "The Misadventures of Harley Quinn". And most importantly I am now a father to my beautiful daughter Arya Jade!
