Review: Wonder Woman #62

[Editor’s note: This review may contain spoilers]

Writer: G. Willow Wilson

Artist: Xermanico

Colorist: Romulo Fajardo Jr.

Summary

It’s the final knock-down drag-out battle between Ares and Wonder Woman—but is there still any hope of changing the young god’s ways before he hardens into the worst possible version of himself? And if he does…is Wonder Woman to blame?

Positives

The cover by Terry Dodson and Rachel Dodson is great. It’s well drawn and looks great.

I like the interior art quite a bit. Romulo Fajardo Jr.’s colors always have a cool texture that is unique to his work. This pairs well with Xermanico’s pencils. This issue has a great style.

This story effectively puts into question Wonder Woman’s place in war as well as superheroes in general. This isn’t the first time comics have dealt with the collateral damage caused by super heroes but putting it in the context of a fight between Diana and Ares really works. The two have to face some hard truths but the story does not give them any answers by the end.

Negatives

There are no negatives worth mentioning.

Verdict

This is a great finale to this story. It looks great; I love the style. And the story is interesting and ends in a way that is satisfying in a bitter sweet way. I really enjoyed this issue.

I am currently a senior at Wichita State University studying communications. I started reading comics in 2013 because of how much I loved Man of Steel and season one of Arrow. My favorite hero is the Green Arrow and my favorite villain is the Joker.
