Aquaman Shoots For $1 Billion Worldwide

Aquaman - DC Comics News

After an impressive opening in China, Aquaman premiered in the states with a $67.4 million opening weekend. That may sound like a lot, but it is actually the lowest opening weekend for any DC Universe movie.

But don’t count the James Wan movie out yet. The Christmas box office brought in another $22 million alone, bringing the domestic take over the $100 million mark.

With word of mouth being great for this movie, strong foreign ticket sales and minimal competition over the next few weeks, things are looking good for the King of Atlantis.

As it stands, Aquaman is tracking to pass the billion-dollar mark, making it the most successful entry in the DC franchise yet. It’s already made the majority it will make in the Chinese market, so the retention in the states this upcoming weekend will determine if it can reach that milestone.

Cameron Tevis

Hi, I'm Cameron Tevis and I've been a comic book, anime and film fan my entire life. While I like Marvel and anime my true love is DC Comics. My father, who was a fan himself, introduced me at a very young age to the amazing characters in DC (especially Hal Jordan Green Lantern). I think it's a fantastic time to be a comic book fan and I'm happy I get to write about the company that I love so much. Besides being a DC fan, I am a designer and I recently started a comic book series of my own called Event Cycle 6 published through Aporian Comics. I recently wrote and directed a short film "The Misadventures of Harley Quinn". And most importantly I am now a father to my beautiful daughter Arya Jade!
