Summary
Darkseid has broken Castle Grayskull and Eternia! Breaking down the castle, the god of Apokolips finally has access to the anti-life equation and seeks to bring his own brand of order to the universe. Meanwhile on Earth, Batman and Superman come to terms and prepare to launch a strike on Grayskull along with He-Man! Will the alliance be able to last long enough to survive stopping Darkseid though?
Positives
Once again Injustice shows us just how dark and evil Superman has the potential to be. In this issue we find Superman continuing his battle against He-Man, until he learns that Darkseid has finally gained control of the anti-life equation! With the battle between Batman and Superman now at a halt, the two once again join forces to stop Darkseid! With the alliance struck, Tim Seeley makes it clear that its a matter of who will betray who first at this point! The action is everywhere and I enjoyed every minute of it! There’s even a moment where you think Superman can redeem himself as the world’s greatest hero, but being the jerk that he is in this series he completely blows it! Not to give too much away but the moment Superman sees an opportunity to make the world a better place, he immediately uses it to increase his power–it’s actually an interesting comparison that’s made in the book, but we’ll get into that later.
Negatives
I have zero complaints about this issue! The world’s greatest heroes in Batman and Superman are together again, but it’s clear that their relationship isn’t the same. Each one promises the other that they will destroy the other after Darkseid’s defeat, but it’s Superman’s encounter with Darkseid that I found the most interesting. Seeking revenge for Kalibak’s death at the hands of Superman, Darkseid charges head on at Earth’s dictator, and as the battle proceeds Darkseid makes some shocking commentary. He notes that with everything that Superman has accomplished on Earth, it’s the same thing he would’ve done himself. Darkseid tells Superman that they are pretty much the same person now, and that soon Superman will set his pursuits of power outside of Earth.
Verdict
Injustice Vs Masters of The Universe #5 was a great read! The action as always is insane and the story right along with it! Skeletor probably has the best story for a villain so far in this story, and although his overall plan failed, you have to admire Skeletor for being able to play so many sides of the conflict. Skeletor’s constant betrayals aren’t without consequences though and the villain is actually seen making a last stand against Darkseid, while thanking He-Man at the end.
