Summary

“THE JUST WAR” part one! A new era of Wonder Woman begins as best-selling writer G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel) makes her return to DC with art star Cary Nord (Conan, THE UNEXPECTED) joining the series!

Far below Themyscira, Ares, the God of War, has been imprisoned for generations, repenting his past sins. But his new cellmate Grail may have an unexpected effect on him…and the plan they’ve come up with will change Themyscira—and the world— forever! When Wonder Woman rushes to Eastern Europe to rescue Steve Trevor from a mission gone wrong, she’ll find herself face-to-face with a very new, very different God of War!

Positives

The cover by Terry Dodson and Rachel Dodson is gorgeous. I love the style, the vibrant colors and the detail.

I loved Greg Rucka’s Rebirth run so I am really excited that G. Willow Wilson is directly following that story. The book has been hit or miss since Rucka left and this is a cool direction to go in.

Wilson brings in a famous Wonder Woman villain as the main catalyst for the story. I really like the set up of where this character’s head is at and what the intentions of the character are.

Negatives

I don’t like the art. Romulo Fajardo Jr.’s colors are great as always but, stylistically, this does nothing for me. There isn’t enough detail in the faces. The characters look bizarre in most of the panels and it was constantly taking me out of the story.

Verdict

There’s a lot of potential in this new story. I like the concept and the set up of what this conflict is going to be. I think it’s an interesting continuation of what Rucka was doing. The only downside is the art which I don’t like at all. Other than that, this is a solid issue.
