Don’t you just LOVE a good team up? Comics and crossovers go together like burgers and fries, in my humble opinion. In recent years we’ve had Batman meeting Ninja Turtles, the Masters Of The Universe battling the heroes and villains of the Injustice games and comics, and even a Justice League/Power Rangers mash-up. It was announced at the 2018 New York Comic Con that DC Entertainment and animation giants Rooster Teeth will be collaborating on an all-new comics line, based on Rooster Teeth’s hit animated shows.

Rooster Teeth Partners With DC To Produce Slate of Comic Book Series Starting With RWBY and gen:LOCK in 2019
New York – October 7, 2018 – Rooster Teeth is partnering with DC to produce a slate of comic books based on Rooster Teeth original IPs, two of which were revealed today: the global anime-style phenomenon RWBY and the highly anticipated mecha-anime style series, gen:LOCK. The announcement was made today during Rooster Teeth’s New York Comic Con panel by Rooster Teeth’s Head of Animation Gray G. Haddock. RWBY and gen:LOCK comic books will be available both physically and digitally in 2019.
Both DC and Rooster Teeth, a subsidiary of Otter Media, are WarnerMedia companies.
“All of us at Rooster Teeth Animation are incredibly honored that the tales we’ve been pouring our hearts into have found their comics home at DC,” said Haddock. “With these comics, we’re looking forward to spending more time with the characters we love, taking deeper looks into their worlds, and going on more journeys. In gen:LOCK, Earth’s last free society is on the losing side of a global war, and recruits a diverse team of young pilots to control the next generation of giant, weaponized robot bodies known as mecha. These daring recruits will find, however, that their newfound abilities come at no small cost. gen:LOCK stars Michael B. Jordan, Dakota Fanning, Maisie Williams, Kōichi Yamadera, Golshifteh Farahani, Asia Kate Dillon and David Tennant.
gen:LOCK is the second anime-style series and third 3D animated series from Rooster Teeth Animation. Outlier Productions, Jordan’s production company, is co-producing gen:LOCK along with Rooster Teeth.
RWBY takes place in a world filled with horrific monsters bent on death and destruction, where humanity’s hope lies with powerful Huntsmen and Huntresses. Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long are four such Huntresses in training whose journeys will take them far past the grounds of their school, Beacon Academy. Though each may be powerful on their own, these four girls must overcome dark forces and work as a team if they truly hope to become the next generation of Remnant’s protectors.
RWBY, entering its sixth volume on October 27, is a global anime phenomenon and the first western-style anime to be distributed in Japan. RWBY was conceived by the late Monty Oum. The beloved series has been adapted into manga, an upcoming series of YA novels, video, mobile and card games, and inspired multiple clothing lines, toys, figurines, statues, plushies and more.
