Summary

Locked up in Arkham Asylum, Slade Wilson is literally losing his mind. Surrounded by some of the world’s most dangerous psychopaths, Slade is starting to wonder if he’s actually one of them. Still in his cell, Slade is remains talking to Wintergreen–his former partner although no one else can see him! Is Slade finally starting to lose his mind?

Positives

I found this book to be entertaining and pretty interesting at the same time. When our story starts we find Slade Wilson curled up on the floor in his cell at Arkham Asylum. Surrounded by some of Gotham’s worst criminals Wilson slowly feels as if he’s losing his mind, especially since he’s talking to his old friend Wintergreen in his cell. Wintergreen swears that he’s actually a computer program implanted in Slade’s brain. Slade feels however this is impossible, since scanners showed he was free of any type of tech upon entrance into Arkham. Wintergreen even shows a blueprint of Arkham with plans to escape, and still Slade is not interested. It’s not until a group therapy session that Slade decides to try out Wintergreen’s blueprints for escape.

Negatives

Overall I thought this book was a great read. One particular favorite scene actually involves the group therapy I mentioned earlier. Sitting in a room surrounded by inmates, Slade hears countless stories from Freeze, Zsasz, and even Hugo Strange of how they actually feel wronged by the justice system, and how they’re actually the victims! Priest shows you a pretty brief but interesting insight in how it seems that Gotham’s criminals actually want to be in society–but a few pages later you realize just how insane they are.

Verdict

Overall I thought that Deathstroke #36 was a great read. Although the action is brief and few, Priest makes up for it by giving you access to some of the most dangerous criminals on the planet through the eyes of Slade. There’s even a scene where he attempts to kill them all! I’m looking forward to reading the next issue especially since King leaves you on a crazy cliffhanger at the end! I definitely can’t wait to read the next issue!
