Stargirl Cast in New DC Universe Original Series

Stargirl - DC Comics News

With the DC Universe streaming service up and running audiences are eager to see a wider variety of shows available. First up is Titans in October then Doom Patrol followed by Swamp Thing.

But recently it was announced that a 13-episode Stargirl series would be added to the roster. Now comes the first round of casting news: Stargirl herself has been cast.  Nickelodeon’s Bella and the Bulldogs star, Brec Bassinger has been cast as Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl.

Stargirl creator and former DC CCO, Geoff Johns created Stargirl as a tribute to his late sister who was among the victims of the TWA 800 crash. He had this to say about Bassinger’s casting:

There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl. And after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec’s warmth, strength, humor and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role.

Stargirl has been adapted to live action two other times, the first time she was played by Britt Irvin on Smallville and most recently she appeared on DC Legends of Tomorrow played by Sarah Grey.

Stargirl is scheduled to premiere in 2019 on the DC Universe streaming service.

Cameron Tevis

Hi, I'm Cameron Tevis and I've been a comic book, anime and film fan my entire life. While I like Marvel and anime my true love is DC Comics. My father, who was a fan himself, introduced me at a very young age to the amazing characters in DC (especially Hal Jordan Green Lantern). I think it's a fantastic time to be a comic book fan and I'm happy I get to write about the company that I love so much. Besides being a DC fan, I am a designer and I recently started a comic book series of my own called Event Cycle 6 published through Aporian Comics. I recently wrote and directed a short film "The Misadventures of Harley Quinn". And most importantly I am now a father to my beautiful daughter Arya Jade!
