Summary
If you want something done right, do it yourself! Onimar Synn has come to Earth for his Nth Metal sustenance. Will Firebrand and Neon the Unknown be able to stop him before he gets his hands on it?
Positives
I can’t get over how much I love the style of this book. The colors and art feel so different to me when compared to any other comic that’s out right now. Expanding on the Orcks and Monster Valley is also something I feel could only be done in a book like this, although it does help that Orlando created these ideas in his JLA run. There are some really really great ideas at play here that explore completely new areas of the DC Universe while still keeping things connected to Nth Metal. It’s great to see Onimar Synn back in action, and I hope he only continues to grow as a strong and ever-threatening villain. The emotions also come across as more real this time, and I am glad that I am starting to feel for Neon as a character.
Negatives
The original ideas are great, but the execution is not quite there yet. The comic book feels like it has endless exposition at times, so the entire issue feels a bit clunky. The dialogue also feels really heavy. Both Neon and Firebrand feel like people of action to me, so it feels a bit out of place when they talk so much. Hopefully these are things that can get better with time.
Verdict
Slow and steady improvement is all a comic needs to keep me going, and this comic delivered improvement in spades. I can’t wait to see how a new arrival to the series impacts things.
