Some casting news has been announced surrounding the new Joker origin film. The Hangover star Bryan Callen is on board and Glow star Marc Maron. Callen isn’t exactly surprising when The Hangover and Joker are directed by the same person, Todd Phillips. Callen broke the news on his podcast “The Fighter and the Kid” and says he’ll be playing an aging dancer/stripper. Maron is in talks at the moment, and if he’s cast, he’ll be playing an agent on Robert De Niro’s talk show in the film. Supposedly, that talk show plays a key part in the Joker’s creation. So, all in all, Callen is confirmed and Maron is in the works.
“I’m doing the Joker. I was offered a part,” Callen revealed. “That’ll be fun, but I think it’s only a couple days. I play an aging dancer. A stripper. I don’t want to go into the details. I can’t go into the details, but just know it’s going to be good. I’ll be in a Speedo, I can’t wait. I have some ideas for it.”
Callen’s co-host, Brendan Schaub, broke some of his own news about the film last year. Schaub is good friends with Phillips’ agent and he said that part of Joker’s origin in the film is the fact he had a permanent smile as a kid and everyone made fun of him. I guess we’ll see if that’s true when the film comes out.
Joker starts shooting in September and will be released October 4th, 2019.
