Lineup Revealed for ‘Birds of Prey’ Movie!

The characters being featured in the Margot Robbie produced Birds of Prey have been revealed, and the roster coming together is a little unconventional.  According to TheWrap, Black Canary, Cassandra Cain, Renee Montoya, and Huntress will join Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in the film.

Birds of Prey will focus on an always changing team of female heroes and villains, similar to in the comics.  The team will face off against a villain from the Batman comics that has never been featured on the big screen.

Here are some quick summaries fo those who are unfamiliar with some of the characters on this lineup.

  • Dinah Laurel Lance is Black Canary, a formidable martial artist with a super-sonic canary cry that comes from a family accustomed to upholding the law.  Her mother Dinah Lance was the original Black Canary while her father Larry Lance was a Police Officer.
  • Cassandra Cain is one of the world’s best martial artists and and has served time under the cowl of Batgirl.  Some say she is even more formidable than Batman himself in a fight.
  • Renee Montoya is a detective for the Gotham City Police department by day and may take the role of the Question by night.  She has existed in the comics both as the Question, and as just a detective.  Either way, Gotham better watch out.  She is also an openly lesbian character in the DC Universe.
  • Helena Bertinelli protects Gotham by night as the Huntress, a crossbow-wielding vigilante with a vendetta against the crime families of Gotham.

Cathy Yan is expected to direct this film, and will be the third female filmmaker and first Asian woman to direct a DC movie.  Cathy Yan wrote and directed her debut movie, Dead Pigs, which took home the World Cinema Dramatic Award For Ensemble Acting at Sundance in early 2018.

Producers on Birds of Prey include Kroll & Co Entertainment’s Sue Kroll, Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless, and Robbie herself, and Christina Hodson wrote this spinoff film.

What do you think about this roster?  Who do you think the villain will be?  I hope its Lady Shiva.  Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

I am currently a Sophomore at Case Western Reserve University studying mechanical engineering. I have been in love with DC since I saw the animated series and movies in the early 2000s. I started reading comics regularly at the start of Rebirth. My favorite character is Martian Manhunter.
