In a recent interview, James Wan complimented what Marvel had done and how accessible they made the characters.
He said:
I actually think the most incredible thing [Marvel] did is making Captain America and Thor accessible to the mainstream — especially outside of the United States. The moment you can make a character called ‘Captain America’ work in Russia and China, then anything is possible.
He then went on to talk about Warner Bros and what he insisted they do if they wanted to hire him.
I told them that I understand and respect that Aquaman is part of a bigger universe but at the end of the day I have to tell the story I want to tell and want to develop the character because it’s such a big part of my life as the filmmaker behind it. And that was something the studio was respectful about.
Of course being WB they could very well do what they did with with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League and give freedom to the director in pre-production and production, but then go in and completely change and destroy the film in editing.
Regardless of what happens, fans at San Diego Comic-con can expect to see the first full trailer for Aquaman next Saturday. Hopefully it will get a wide release shortly thereafter.
