“Batman: Ninja” Inspires New Manga Series For Japan

Following the successful release of the DTV anime project Batman: Ninja, a new manga series adapting and expanding the movie’s plot is set to debut in Japan.

Batman: Ninja is an out-of-continuity tale in which Gorilla Grodd’s time travel experiment at Arkham Asylum goes wrong and sends Batman and his Rogues Gallery back to feudal Japan. The villains – Joker, Harley Quinn, Penguin, Two-Face, Bane, Poison Ivy – and members of the Bat-family – Catwoman and Alfred included – arrive first and assume control of five territories as their new lords. The Dark Knight himself arrives two years later and is a fish out of water, forced to adapt his methods in the absence of his trademark technology. The movie is set to debut in Japanese theaters June 15th, and has already received rave reviews for the unique designs and animation.

The adaptation will be run in Shogakugan’s Monthly Hero magazine, and will be written and drawn by Manga-ka Masato Hisa, the mind behind Kamuya Ride and Area 51. However, at this time, there is no planned TPB collection of the expected stories.
