Black Lightning is Not Part of Arrowverse… or is it?

Black Lightning - DC Comics News

Fans have been wondering since the announcement that Black Lightning was going into production if it would be a part of the popular CW Arrowverse.

Since it was airing on The CW and was another Greg Berlanti production, it seemed like it was an obvious choice to include it with the other shows. Adding to the assumption that it must be connected, is the fact that Black Lighting has referenced characters such as Vixen and Supergirl, both of whom are part of the Arrowverse. Vixen has been seen on both Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow while Supergirl is in parallel dimension but has appeared in cross-over events to join Arrow and the others in the Arrowverse.

Despite these things, executive producer Salim Akil says:

We are in our own world. We’re not in the Arrowverse. We’re not in the Supergirl universe. We’re in the Black Lightning universe. If there’s ever a crossover, Supergirl will come to Freeland, or Green Arrow will come to Freeland.

So, the official stance is Black Lightning is not part of the Arrowverse. But one could also argue, if Supergirl is considered part of the Arrowverse despite being in a parallel dimension, then wouldn’t Black Lightning?  If there is any possibility of a cross-over then that would mean he is in fact part of the Arrowverse.  What do you think?

Cameron Tevis

Hi, I'm Cameron Tevis and I've been a comic book, anime and film fan my entire life. While I like Marvel and anime my true love is DC Comics. My father, who was a fan himself, introduced me at a very young age to the amazing characters in DC (especially Hal Jordan Green Lantern). I think it's a fantastic time to be a comic book fan and I'm happy I get to write about the company that I love so much. Besides being a DC fan, I am a designer and I recently started a comic book series of my own called Event Cycle 6 published through Aporian Comics. I recently wrote and directed a short film "The Misadventures of Harley Quinn". And most importantly I am now a father to my beautiful daughter Arya Jade!
