Summary
You know what happened today for Jessica Cruz? She learned that binge watching Grey’s Anatomy and a Power Ring equals the ability to preform advanced neuro-surgery to remove a mind control device….on 20 people at once! Meanwhile, Equalibrian gets a number of great shots on Simon as the Lantern is ping ponging around the holy ground breaking everything he smashes into. To make things worse for our heroes, Scrapps is getting the beating of a life time by Night Pilot under the control of the High Rider.
What monstrosities will the alien combatants pull out to stop the Lantern investigation? How will Jessica handle it when Night Pilot and Baz are finally reunited?
Positives
The most exciting part of this issue is the wonderful illustrations by V. Ken Marion. The grotesque monsters created by Tim Seeley and rendered in frightening and gruesome detail. During the end of the issue we see Cruz and Baz without there masks and their expressions are expressive, as well as those of the High Rider.
Along with those expressions Seeley has written a wonderful dynamic between them. In Green Lanterns #43, we get to see the romantic tension between the lanterns.
Negatives
Green Lanterns #43 is surprisingly brief! For it’s details and exciting moments with giant monsters and brazen beatings, you just quickly glace through it. This is disappointing because of the really cool situations that happen are captivating but they are over so quickly that it doesn’t seem to matter.
The biggest moment in this issue takes place in the last three pages. Given the importance of this moment and how it is the slowest part to read through, the pacing feels off. More time should have been taken to explore this portion of the story.
Verdict
Green Lanterns #43 is the fast paced conclusion to the Human Trafficking story arc. It’s large combative conclusion falls a little dull but Baz and Cruz pull through the keep the story interesting.
