‘Gotham’ Star Says True Joker Will Be Revealed Soon

Before David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne/Batman) revealed that Jerome is not the true Joker, there was much speculation on if he was the Joker or not. Now we have it from Mazouz that before Season 4 ends, we will see who the true Joker is.

“It really is one of the biggest shocks. I think it’s safe to say that this kind of transition is not only the smartest thing, but the biggest kind of surprise that Gotham has thrown at its audience,” Mazouz told ComicBook.com. “I’m sure we’d love to have crazy cliff hangers, but this is one that is not even on the same level as anything we’ve done before.”

Mazouz also went on to say that when he stumbled onto the twist in the script, he said it was “perfect” and says it will help explain how Jerome is involved in the creation of the real Joker. Jerome, played by Cameron Monaghan, was first introduced in Season 1. He seemed to be a much younger version of Joker, and we thought we possibly saw his origin as a young child in the circus. Jerome had that creepy (but beautiful) laugh and that unforgettable smile. But it turns out he’s been a red herring this whole time. In January, Mazouz revealed that Jerome is not the true Joker and the real joker will pop up soon in the show.

Jerome was killed off in Season 2 Episode 3 and then was revived a year later. Since being revived, he’s literally had his face cut off (homage to the 2011 relaunch of the New 52 anyone?), led a cult of devoted followers, and fought Bruce while he started his vigilante training. Now, he’s been committed to Arkham Asylum but as we all know from the midseason finale that won’t hold him for long.

Gotham returns this Thursday (3/1) on FOX. Gotham stars Ben Mackenzie (Jim Gordon), David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne), Sean Pertwee (Alfred Pennyworth), Robin-Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin), Donal Logue (Harvey Bullock), Cory Michael Smith (Edward Nygma/Riddler), Michael Chiklis (Nathaniel Barnes), and Erin Richards (Barbara Kean).

Hi! I'm Shaina aka the Jokergurl. I've been studying comics (namely Batman) since I was 12 years old, and possibly even before that. My forte is being up on absolutely everything there is to know about the Caped Crusader, and both the Clown Prince and Princess of Crime. I recently graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with an MA in English and Creative Writing and an MFA in Creative Writing from National University. I am also a Digital Marketing expert. I have a cat Strawberry and a dog Ashes and spend most of my time reading, editing, cosplaying, and gaming on Game of Honor. Have a happy!
