Casting Call For DC’s Titans TV Series Hints At Solstice

A new casting call for DC’s Titans has hinted that we may have a new member of the Titans joining the team. The new live action show will premiere exclusively on DC Comics upcoming digital service.

Core members of the Titans have already been announced with Brenton Thwaites playing Dick Grayson/Robin, Anna Diop as Koriand’r/Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven, and Ryan Potter as Garfield Logan/Beast Boy. Plus, this team of four will be joined by recurring stars Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall/Hawk and Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger/Dove.

Rumours have circulated that we may also see Wonder Girls and Trigon added to the mix and now the latest round of casting calls hints at another DC Comics Character.

That Hashtag Show, who reported the casting call have speculated who they believe the new character might via their website and in the video (Below) which was posted on their YouTube channel. Their guess, Solstice – a character created by J.T. Krul and Nicola Scott.

Solstice first appeared in Teen Titans #88 (Vol.3) in October 2010, Kiran Singh later made her first speaking appearance one month later in Teen Titans #89. The daughter of two archaeologists who mysteriously disappeared while on a dig, Kiran went off looking for them on her own. The Teen Titans were called in to aid in the search, as one of the Singh’s colleagues, Dr. Helena Sandsmark, was the mother of Cassandra Sandsmark, a.k.a. Wonder Girl. It was later revealed that Cassandra and Kiran were friends and already aware of one-another’s secret identities and powers, having shared an adventure in a Wonder Girl #1 one-shot, which revealed Kiran’s light powers and her chosen code name of Solstice.

Kiran’s time in the Teen Titans was sadly cut short by The New 52 reboot in 2011. Kiran was later reintroduced into the new Teen Titans series, all be it with a rather different look. Kiran had previously looked like an ordinary human, radiating a golden light when she used her powers, the new Solstice had pitch-black skin surrounded by dim blue lights and glowing blue eyes. She also emitted a thick black smoke whenever she used her powers. Luckily, she still retained her cheerful and optimistic attitude, despite suffering severe pain while being experimented on by the secretive organization NOWHERE. Unfortunately, the character disappeared into limbo following recent efforts to restore the classic Teen Titans line-up in the lead-up to DC Rebirth.

With luck we’ll have an official announcement regarding the new character very soon.

Titans debuts in 2018 on the DC-branded direct-to-consumer digital service, operated by Warner Bros. Digital Networks.
