Unfortunately Gotham City Sirens is officially not going to happen. I really did want this movie to happen but there seems to be something else on the horizon.
Last month Margot Robbie said that she was working on a new movie featuring Harley Quinn and her girl friends that wasn’t Gotham City Sirens. Apparently Warner Bros. is working on three movies that feature Harley Quinn, the most obvious being Suicide Squad 2, which I’m not sure how it will work considering The Joker broke her out. Anyways it’s supposed to go into production later this year.
The next is a new announcement, Birds of Prey, and Transformers spinoff Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson is writing the script. It seems that Margot Robbie is a big fan of the Birds of Prey comics. This matches up with what she said in an interview last month about a secret Harley Quinn movie she was working on. This could be a great opportunity to feature Batgirl as well which would be really awesome!
The third and final film is the Joker vs. Harley movie which is still in the works. In the past we had heard that Glenn Ficarra and John Requa were in talks to write and direct. Robbie has worked with that directing duo before — on 2015’s Focus which co-starred Will Smith, as well as 2016’s Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. She recently praised them for being involved in the Joker/Harley movie.
This is all really exciting, and if you know me, you would know that I am a huge Harley Quinn fan. Even before Suicide Squad, I was a big fan of Margot Robbie, and the thought of her featuring in three movies is really exciting. I am also a fan of Batgirl and I can’t imagine them being in the same movie.
