The accusations of sexual harassment in Hollywood and the rise of the #metoo movement has been one of the biggest news stories of the past 6 months and it hit home to the Arrowverse when Andrew Kreisberg was accused of sexual misconduct by 19 individuals. The accusations alleged Kreisberg would frequently ask staffers for massages, would kiss people without permission, and that his behavior became worse after he was promoted within the company. Supergirl star Melissa Benoist addressed these issues when she spoke at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. She had this to say:
“That was a major disappointment, and the irony was not lost on me. I have to say that the way our show has recovered as a cast and a crew together, we have an atmosphere on set now that I’m extremely proud of and there are a lot of amazing men that work on our show, and we have a lot of amazing women that are in powerful positions on our show as well — now one of our co-showrunners is a female, [Jessica Queller], and the executive producer Sarah Schechter. We’re all in the fight for equality and for a safer atmosphere in the working space.”
It has been revealed that with Kreisberg’s firing, no story lines have had to be changed on the show. Now is the time to move forward and build safe work and living spaces for everyone. Onward and upward! Supergirl airs Mondays on The CW.
