Guggenheim Confirms Previously Established Arrowverse Character to Fill Firestorm’s Spot on “Legends”

Legends of Tomorrow - Season 3 - DC Comics News

The void left by Professor Martin Stein and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson – the duo known as Firestorm – will soon be filled by a previously established Arrowverse hero on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

After the death of Stein (Victor Garber) at the hands of Earth-X Nazis and subsequent loss of the Firestorm Matrix, Jax (Franz Drameh) departed the Waverider in the fall finale to fulfill Martin’s final wish for him to find happiness.

As to the replacement, although all eyes pointed to The Ray, his portrayer, Russell Tovey, is still tied up in his commitment to the drama series, Quantico. Executive producer Marc Guggenhiem confirmed that there was a plan in mind. “There’s really like two empty chairs on the Waverider, “ he elaborates. “So we do have a game plan. We’ve always had a game plan. I just can’t talk about the game plan. The CW publicity will determine when we get to unleash that bit of news.”

As to further details on the replacement character(s), Marc confirmed “It’s a returning one. It’s a previously established character in the Arrowverse.”

Fans are already speculating who it could be. Besides the Ray, a popular theory is that it will wind up being John Constantine (Matt Ryan), who was reestablished as an acquaintance on Arrow during the fourth season after the series Constantine had been cancelled on NBC. Another previous DC protagonist who had his own series and appeared on Arrow last year was Christopher Chance (Mark Valley) from the cancelled Human Target series. Additionally, it could even be Helena Bertinelli (Jessica De Gaow) aka Huntress from season’s 1 and 2 of Arrow. And finally a very popular theory that it could be Wally West/Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) from The Flash given the character has been on hiatus for several episodes this year following a breakup.

In related news, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns from hiatus in February 12, moving into a rotating schedule with Supergirl on Monday nights at 8 until its finale on June 18. Check local listings for more details.
