Gorilla Grodd Recruited By Supernatural Villain in Legends Of Tomorrow Season 3

Following the success of the Legion of Doom in season 2 of Legends of Tomorrow, the upcoming season will once again forge an alliance of super villains. This time, however, we’ll see someone very different in charge.

At the recent 2017 TV Critics Association Summer Press Tour, Executive producer Phil Klemmer and Marc Guggenheim discussed elements of this new team.

“At the head of whatever you want to call our evil organization, it’s different. Last year it was three characters from the three different shows that form this alliance. This is a non-human entity,”

“This is a much more supernatural, spooky vibe this season. We’re dealing more with magic. It’s less real-world bad guys.”

Klemmer was keen not to reveal the name of the character but promised it would be revealed in the opening episode of season 3 which is said to “be more in the world of the occult and monsters

Damian Darhk will return after being brought back from the dead following his death in Arrow. Darhk will be joined by none other than Gorilla Grodd!

“Damian Darhk is going to be the leader of this group in the way Thawne was sort of the boss last year for the Legion of Doom. This group is distinctly led up by Damien,”

Guggenheim added:

“We have a fun way to bring him back that kind of plays into the season-long mythology.”

As for Grodd, Klemmer said:

“It will be a version of him that we have not met yet on any of the shows. It will be the most evolved and powerful form of Grodd. We’re actually breaking the episode now.”

We’re going to see a post-Gorilla City Grodd where the Legends will learn Grodd’s sympathetic and sad plight where one of the team will “take the bait” for Grodd’s side of things.

“We want to give you the sense of a group like we did last year, because that was a lot of fun”

“There’ll be a little bit more rotation, also so we can give you a little bit more of a variety.”

He said he does have a name for this group of super villains that he would “like to see referenced on the show”.

Season 3 will deal with “Anachronisms” with figures from throughout history appearing in time periods not their own.

The mysterious villain for season 3 is “exploiting these fractures to sort of further their global evil purpose”.

Joining the Legends for season 3 will be a new member or (member to be) Zari who will be played by Tala Ashe. Zari is based on the DC character ‘ISIS’ (for obvious reasons the name has been changed) and will bring a new point of view to the team.

Zari is a hacktivist from the year 2042 who pushes the Legends to think beyond just fixing aberrations and anachronisms and, instead, actively improving history.

Upcoming storylines see the Legends visiting Ray’s childhood where, Klemmer teases, the audience “sort of gets underneath Ray’s skin a little bit, and we sort of figure out the pathology behind his optimism. There’s a bit of a sadness to his childhood, and we realize that you are hiding some darkness”.

Additionally, Paul Blackthorne is hoped to appear as Quentin Lance in Season 3, episode 5 (though that’s not officially locked in), and Wentworth Miller is coming back as a “Bizarro” version of Captain Cold.

Klemmer confirms they’re still actively campaigning for Matt Ryan’s Constantine to appear on Legends of Tomorrow as well, which would fit in this magical, supernatural storyline they have planned.
