If reports are to be believed, then we could be seeing a big screen outing for young Billy Batson AKA ‘Shazam!’ as early as January or February 2019, according to sources.
David F. Sandberg, who’s latest picture Annabelle: Creation hits cinemas later this year, will direct the Warner Bros. and New Line led production. The project is believed to start shooting in January or February of next year.
Aquaman and Annabelle produced Peter Safran is currently in negotiations to produce.
Dwayne Johnson will not appear in the upcoming superhero film Shazam!, according to DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns.
“We haven’t announced any casting yet,” Johns told Yahoo Movies. “But Dwayne isn’t going to be in this movie. He’s still doing Black Adam, but he won’t be in Shazam!”
Following the success of Wonder Woman, Warner Bros. has recently penciled in two new DC movies for release in 2020, however we are yet to be told exactly which films will take these slots, although we know there are many projects waiting in the wings.
The Flash we know is delayed due to the lack of director, the Wonder Woman sequel is only in it’s very early stages and Joss Whedon who will be directing Batgirl is currently overseeing the final touches on Justice League, so we can assume that is still a way off.
One thing that is clear is that Sandberg seems to be held in high regards at New Line. The Swede who was making horror shorts in his apartment using his iPhone, one of which was adapted into the surprise hit of 2016 Lights Out, which he directed, later went onto direct the Annabelle sequel which was screened to a standing-room only crowd at San Diego Comic-Con.
It’s certainly a story that equals that of young Billy Batson and his transformation to Shazam!
What do you guys think, are you ready for a Shazam! Movie and is Sandberg the guy for the job?
