While Justice League is still four months away from release, fans in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con will have an opportunity to see the Dark Knight’s new set of crime-crushing wheels on display in Hall H, courtesy of Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Mattel.
The new Batmobile – an 8500 pound, 20-foot-long mean machine – was on display at SDCC’s annual Preview Night on Wednesday at Booth #3029. A redesign from the model seen in both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, the vehicle features retractable machine guns and missile launchers, all the better suited to combat the oncoming Parademon armada of the film’s villain, Steppenwolf. This will be the seventh live-action iteration of the iconic method of transport for Gotham’s Caped Crusader.
For the kids who want their own shot behind the wheel of this bad boy, Mattel will debut the next best thing at the same times as the actual car. Their Ultimate Justice League Batmobile – controlled by both tablet and smartphone – will feature realistic engine sounds, armored wheels and smoke release from the exhaust.
Mattel Toy Designer Michael Kadile enthusiastically confesses to Heat Vision, “I am a huge Batman fan and wanted to design an RC car that showcased what people would imagine it doing. Bringing the Batmobile to life has been really rewarding as a lifelong fan. [My favorite feature on the car] is the smoke that comes out when you rev up the engine. It’s an unexpected surprise!”
However, Kadile’s zeal does not end with Batman’s ground vehicle arsenal. “Batman either drives or flies in every movie. Since I recreated the Batmobile, I would love to recreate one of his flying vehicles, like the Batwing!”
Retailers will make the Ultimate Justice League Batmobile available for preordering starting today (Thursday).
