Summary
Following them at the end of Issue #5, Clark and Lois have decided the give Jonathan space to be a hero of his own! But, only until 10pm when he must be home…parents right? Within short order he meets up with Robin in Metropolis and they go on patrol, and in real Superman fashion they save kittens from trees and help old ladies cross the road.
Before too long Damian gets a call and forcibly sends Jonathan home once the Teen Titans arrive. They fly off to go fight supervillains and leave Jonathan to return home, before 10pm.
Positives
This issue is solid, internally consistent, and pretty funny. Jorge Jimenez introduces the not-so-dynamic duo in this issue with a great one page splash. All of the people and animals that the heroes interact with in this issue also look fantastic, especially a dog that they meet.
This issue is primarily set at night and the shading and shadows throughout the issue look fantastic. There are so many different changes of light within each panel and they are used perfectly to make the characters look heroic but also bring the world to life. The most noticeable contrasts of this are the 10th and 11th pages where the Titans go from outside to in a plane with internal lighting.
With the introduction of the Teen Titans I feared that this issue would suddenly feel like an issue of Teen Titans. The way that Tomasi and Jimenez frame everything makes it clear that this is Super Sons and they utilize the Titans appearance to demonstrate the differences between Robin and Superboy.
Negatives
There are no negatives worth mentioning in this issue.
Verdict
Overall, Super Sons #6 is a great issue with beautiful glossy art and a solid story. The characters that are utilized in the story don’t take away from the focus on Robin and Superboy, which could have easily been the case.
