The CW’s expanded DC Comics universe will stretch to new heights next season when The Flash prepares to introduce one of the most beloved characters in its pantheon.
Next Season on The CW’s The Flash the group at S.T.A.R. Labs will be experiencing some expansion as the team prepares to welcome among their ranks another one of DC Comics most popular heroes! On a recent cast breakdown for the upcoming season, Season 4 of the hit series, suggests that Ralph Dibny, The Elongated Man will be realized on the small screen and joining the largely expanding “Berlanti-verse”.
The cast breakdown requirement describes the perfect candidate as: “A Male, Mid to Late 30’s. Think Ryan Reynolds or Chris Pratt” with the ability to stretch his body to super-human lengths and sizes. The role is being considered as a major recurring guest star with a series regular option for next season, which means that if fans fully embrace Ralph Dibny’s presence on the show, the Elongated Man will become a permanent fixture.
Given the good nature of the Elongated Man, he’s after all considered one of the major super sleuths in the DC Comics Universe, whom also has one of the more humanistic background stories which includes his romance with his wife Sue who meets a terribly tragic end in the now classic “Identity Crisis” storyline. Elongated Man remains one of the most beloved heroes in the DC Comics line-up. Adding him to The Flash especially in Season 4 makes perfect sense!
Given also that the “big bad” that will be tormenting our favorite Scarlet Speedster has been revealed as Clifford Devoe aka The Thinker both characters have been teased on The CW series. Ralph Dibny was remarked having been a casualty of the particle accelerator explosion that started Barry Allen’s incredible adventure, and Devoe is seems will have also been affected by the same event which grants him metahuman powers.
The character breakdown describes the Thinker as “embarking upon a season long battle with The Flash that pins the ‘fastest man alive” against the “fastest mind alive”. Devoe will also be assisted in his vendetta against our heroes by a character called “The Mechanic” — a highly intelligent engineer who designs devices for Devoe and assists him in implementing his plans. With much of Season 4 of The Flash still taking shape, it should be noted that this information could change.
The Flash returns Tuesday, Oct 10 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW and stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin and Keiynan Lonsdale.
