Summary
Cyborg finally returns back home to Detroit after being adrift in the boom tube! However when he returns it’s not to the Detroit he remembers, it’s six months later! Unsure if his father is still alive, Cyborg has to get back into S.T.A.R. Labs and to do that he still needs Exxy’s help.
Positives
This issue had me laughing once again because of the pairing of Cyborg and Exxy. John has made Exxy a favorite supporting character of mine and I’m glad he’s back in this issue. In a small time of just six months Exxy has made a name for himself in Detroit as a celebrity rapper and DJ, and he’s also made Cyborg famous as well. Using his adventures with Cyborg as inspiration for his lyrics Exxy has motivated the kids of Detroit. Things go bad, however, when Anomaly sends another creation to destroy Cyborg and Exxy!
Negatives
I did not like the introduction of Ratattack, who I felt was a pretty weak villain for Cyborg to go up against. Anomaly’s attempts at destroying Cyborg have been pretty pointless so far, so I’m waiting pretty impatiently for another one on one showdown at this point. I really wish Semper would’ve gone a different route with Ratattack, but I feel with the way this issue concluded that the next will be way better.
Verdict
Overall this was a great issue, although it was really the return of Exxy that I was most happy about. In the end it seems that the two come to terms that they are more than just friends and that they’re actually partners when it comes to stopping Anomaly. Hopefully next issue we get to see exactly what Anomaly’s endgame is and how it will affect Cyborg and S.T.A.R. Labs.
