Review: Wonder Woman #20

[Editor’s note: This review may contain spoilers.]

Writer: Greg Rucka
Artists: Bilquis Evely & Romulo Fajardo Jr.

Summary
Veronica makes a deal with Circe in order to trap Deimos and Cale.

Positives
The cover by Bilquis Evely and Romulo Fajardo Jr. is cool. I love the background with all of the stars and the neat coloring. Circe and Wonder Woman also look great. The cover is very eye-catching.

The interior art is drawn by Evely with colors by Fajardo Jr. I like this team and their style. The faces are expressive and well-defined. There’s a textured quality to the art that I really like. Maybe it’s because this story is supposed to take place in the place but I like it stylistically. It fits Wonder Woman well.

I like that Veronica is becoming more and more ruthless. It’s fascinating to compare the two villains with their present day counterparts; they are so different here. Even though there already has been a lot of tragedy, I can only imagine it’s going to get worse. It’s tragic to see these two women slowly lose their humanity.

Negatives
This is only a slight complaint because I don’t care that much about continuity but shouldn’t Diana be in her New 52 costume? I certainly like the Rebirth costume more but, timeline wise, this book has established that she fought alongside the Justice League against Darkseid. It doesn’t really matter but it was hard to find complaints with this one.

Verdict
This is a great issue. If you’re looking for a lot of Wonder Woman, this issue might disappoint you. It is mostly focused on Veronica which is fine by me because this character’s story is riveting to me. I love this tragic fall to darkness and it’s being handled very well by Greg Rucka. There’s a deliberate pace that is slowly turning this woman into the villain of the present day. The art is great as well. I highly recommend reading this issue.
