‘Gotham City Sirens’ Jessica Chastain comments on playing Poison Ivy

'Gotham City Sirens' Jessica Chastain Interested in Playing Poison Ivy

Ever since the release of Suicide Squad last year, Warner Bros. has been planning a spin-off movie that would take the place originally reserved for The Batman in their DCEU slate for 2018. The spin off, titled Gotham City Sirens, is being written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, will be directed by David Ayer, and will feature Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn teaming up with Catwoman and Poison Ivy to take on Black Mask.

Ever since the news was released that the film was in pre-production, fans online have been speculating who would play the roles of Poison Ivy and Catwoman, as well as the antagonist Black Mask. In relation to Poison Ivy, (whose real name is Pamela Lillian Isley), the internet rumor mill was in full force with Transformers star Megan Fox being the front runner for the role, but there’s been nothing new to report on that front in quite some time. Mr. Robot actress Steph Corneliussen expressed interest, but she may not be a big enough star to fill the part.

As for the fans, many have suggested Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) to fill the role. One other name that was mentioned was Jessica Chastain (The Help, Zero Dark Thirty).

While promoting her new film The Zookeeper’s Wife, the two-time Academy Award nominee was asked if she would have interest in playing the DCEU’s Poison Ivy. Here’s what she had to say:

“I’m interested in all things where the characters are strong and dynamic, and not stereotypes or objects. I like female characters that are subjects, not objects,” the 40-year-old actress told Cinema Blend. “And so, if Poison Ivy happens to be that, sure. Throw my hat in the ring.”

What do you think? Would she be a good fit for the role? Comment below and let us know.
