Positives
I really like the cover by Andy Kubert and Hi-Fi. It’s really intense and cool looking even if it does spoil an aspect of the story.
The art in the book is great. I like a lot of the creative panel layouts; it’s a unique looking book. The faces are all nicely expressive and the action all looks really cool. Hi-Fi’s colors are amazing; I always look forward to seeing work by Hi-Fi.
I like the scale of this story. Lena feels like a massive threat. Jimenez does a good job of establishing stakes which works well for the book.
Negatives
Unfortunately, I found this issue to be a little dull. It’s mostly big over-the-top action. It’s certainly a little fun and it all works great but I had a hard time getting engaged. The book also jumps around a lot because of the scale which makes it a little harder to get invested in anything. By the time you get interested, the scene has changed and the focus is on someone else.
I found Lana’s narration to be a little tedious. It’s not a big problem but it kept irritating me as I was reading.
Verdict
This is an okay issue. It’s wonderful to look at with great art, layouts and colors. I do like the scale and some of the action is neat. I just had a hard time getting engaged in the characters because so much is happening. I recommend waiting for the trade with this one.
