From the Ministry of Self-Reliance’s plans to create a justice league for China, to the formation of the Chinese trinity, and the introduction to the Freedom Fighters of China, this is the final arc of the first story of the Super-Man of China.
There are so many questions to be answered, so many paths to choose. Are the Justice League of China right in their stance? Are the Freedom Fighters? How do Kong Kenan’s powers work? Who exactly are Baixi and Deilan before they became Bat-Man and Wonder-Woman?
Positives
I loved this issue. We got to learn more about the characters and especially about Keenan and his connection to Superman and his powers. The way they represent the Man of Steel’s abilities in Keenan is a cool take that looks campy at first but quickly develops into a cool way of representing Chinese philosophy along side new age comic action.
This book was filled with a lot of humor. We also got to see the JLC come together and work as a team in the field, and much more importantly, outside of the action. There were some really clever jokes that make it clear that Keenan, Baixi, and Deilan are teens and not adult heroes.
Verdict
This issue has me pumped for the things to come in the next issue, and the arc after that. It will be a shame if this series ends after this arc or even a second arc. There is a lot of potential for these characters to become regular staples of DC Comics.
