Review: Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love #2

[Editor’s note: This review may contain spoilers.]

Writer: Sarah Vaughn
Artist: Lan Medina

Summary
Deadman is finally able to catch up to the ghost that stalks Glencourt mansion, but he soon finds out that she’s not threat. The spirit named Adelia is just as trapped as Deadman, and the darkness wants to make sure it stays that way.

Positives
I enjoyed the intense building of suspense involved in this book. Boston Brand, also known as the afterlife hero Deadman, is fighting against an entity he hasn’t yet been able to understand, and we’re all along for the ride. Adelia’s story is expertly told, right from her marriage and moving into Glencourt mansion up until her murder. I’m eager to see how it all ties into the present day and what or who exactly the darkness is.

Negatives
If you’re looking for any fast paced action you won’t find it here. Vaughn instead tells a story full of suspense and that fills the gap quite well.

Verdict
Deadman #2 is a good book to read as a followup to its previous issue. Although not meant to be a standalone issue, if you’ve never read Deadman before, it’s a great introduction to the series.
