Review: New Talent Showcase #1: Catwoman/Wonder Woman: The Amazonian Job

[Editor’s note: This review may contain spoilers.]

Writer: Emma Beeby
Artists: Minkyu Jung & Trish Mulvihill

Summary
Wonder Woman hires Catwoman to steal a mystical artifact.

Positives
The art is great; it’s drawn by Minkyu Jung with colors by Trish Mulvihill. The characters look fantastic. Their faces are wonderfully expressive which is always one of my favorite aspects in comic book art. Everything looks great.

Catwoman and Wonder Woman teaming up is always a fun dynamic and it works here. I like that Diana does not quite understand how to hire Selina. That is fairly amusing. Emma Beeby has a good grasp on Selina and how that character thinks.

Negatives
While this is just the start of a story, there isn’t anything here that is particularly engaging on a story level. The premise is fun and well executed but a lot is being saved for presumably future issues. This story is mostly Diana and Selina talking which is fun but not riveting.

Verdict
This is a good start to a story. I like the premise, the characters are fun and the art is great. There’s not much to it but it’s still an enjoyable read.

I am currently a senior at Wichita State University studying communications. I started reading comics in 2013 because of how much I loved Man of Steel and season one of Arrow. My favorite hero is the Green Arrow and my favorite villain is the Joker.
