Summary
The trio of Batman, Superman, & Wonder Woman have found themselves in another warped past. This time, the Dark Knight is dealing with a Gotham that he doesn’t know and finds himself lost inside. The trio of the World’s Finest are beginning to piece together the mystery of where they are though. Whatever power keeps them trapped in warped versions of their past will soon have to deal with the full force of the Man of Steel, the Dark Knight Detective, and the Amazing Amazon.
This issue showcases something between the heroes that was missing from the entirety of the New 52 run of DC Comics: partnership. With this issue, and the trials within it, the Trinity is truly beginning to form and we get to see them supporting each other. These small moments are really giving Trinity #3 the feeling that Francis Manapul was talking about. This is a book for small, human stories, not global conflict.
Positives
The art of Clay Mann in this issue is superb, which should come as no surprise to anyone who is currently reading Superman. There are a few two page splashes in this issue that really pop! Some of the detailing of Batman’s armor also looks really cool, especially his gauntlets, and knee pads of his boots.
Negatives
Because this issue focuses on Batman a little bit, it is necessary to discuss his parents’ deaths. While Manapul and Clay have a really interesting take on how things happened visually, we once again read the story of Bruce’s parents being murdered. I believe this is the most drawn, redrawn, and filmed, pictured, and otherwise captured scene in all of comics/film and it feels boring.
Verdict
I loved the art of Trinity #3, I think Clay Mann is a great artist for Manapul to switch out with occasionally and there styles work well together. The story of this issue was a little dry but what it sets up is very exciting.
