Summary
“This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper.” (Eliot, T.S. (1925). The Hollow Men). Issue #5 of Scooby Apocalypse brought these words to my mind. Images of the classic film Dawn of the Dead were conjured up as well. This issue picks up with the gang inside of a Mall-Mart, trying to seek refuge and gather their bearings in the apocalypse. The issue of this new wave of monsters having once being humans is mentioned, as the gang opens fire, which tends to happen when monsters are lunging for your throat.
Packed in this issue are some really interesting new pieces of information about the monsters, The Four, and The Complex. We also get a great opportunity to see how everyone meshes when they are stuck together and under pressure, no more open fields, just four walls and time.
Positives
This issue is a great turn from the last, which I found very boring and repetitive. Not only does it have good action and tense but it really raises the stakes and gets interesting!
Negatives
With the design of these monsters being inspired by film and TV creatures, there was surprisingly little variation in them. They are all the same skinny, boney, little red demon guys. There is a little creepy girl monster but everything else feels dull.
Verdict
This issue was very enjoyable! It wasn’t perfect, but I seriously enjoyed this one!
