Baltimore Comic Con 2016: Day 1

Friday morning I hit the road and started my long journey (20 minutes) to the greatest comic con in the world!

Baltimore Comic Con is a 3 day con full of comics, cosplay, informative panels and most importantly pure fun!

In addition to the numerous comics professionals on the guest list, the celebrity guests included Kristian Nairn (Hodor, Game Of Thrones), Sean Astin (Goonies, TMNT, Lord Of The Rings), Haley Atwell (Agent Carter), Michael Rowe (Floyd Lawton, Arrow), and Candice Patton (Iris West, Flash). The 2016 Guest of Honor was none other than the co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kevin Eastman.

I used Parking Panda (highly recommended) and secured parking for all 3 days. After parking I stopped to get a coffee before heading to the convention center.

I entered the con greeted by friendly familiar faces, the always enthusiastic hard working BCC Staff and Minions! I quickly hit the con floor to get a lay of the land. Eye candy was abundant, rare and highly sought after comics, toys, statues and novelty items were displayed throughout! If collecting original art is your thing you were in luck, thousands of pages of original art ranging from $30 to $50,000 were in stock and ready to go to a new home. Truly a collectors dream!

There was something for everyone! Veteran artists and writers were easily accessible and friendly. Legendary DC Comics creators Ramona Fradon, Joe Giella, and Al Jaffee were present signing autographs and in some cases selling original art and taking commissions. Numerous publishers were on hand with product for sale, con exclusives, and free comics. There was an extremely large “Kids Love Comics” section where throughout the day kids were treated to activities hosted by a multitude of creators and publishers.  Free drawing sessions paid off for some, as I heard some lucky kids traded art with artists Yanick Paquette (Wonder Woman Earth One) and Mike Maihack (Cleopatra in Space). Artists Alley was thriving with new and exciting creator owned comics, jewelry, clothing and art prints!

Friday’s panels which I took in are included below, enjoy! Make sure to check back with DC Comics News for more coverage of the 2016 Baltimore Comic Con!

My love of comics started at the age of 5, when visions of mythic beings fought their way across my TV screen. Batman '66, Super Friends, Wonder Woman, and Superman '78 filled my early childhood with imagination and adventure. Soon enough I found the spinner rack! Batman, Justice League and DC's Who's Who kept me coming back for more. I've seen the death of hope, justice broken, a light extinguished, and a universe torn! A kingdom come, the lightning return, a triumph of evil and a multiverse reborn!
