It’s hard to imagine “Silent Bob” getting emotional, but Kevin Smith is very passionate about all things related to superheroes. It was recently revealed that Smith will direct an episode of Supergirl when it starts its second season on The CW Network. Smith revealed the name of the episode, and why he got emotional on his podcast Fatman on Batman:
“[Executive Producer] Andrew Kreisberg told me the name of the episode is ‘Supergirl Lives,'” Smith says, seemingly choking up. “I’m going to cry talking about this. The name of the script I wrote back in 1996 was called ‘Superman Lives.’ That’s what they do over at that f—ing Berlanti-verse, they make magic. They reach into your f—ing heart, they cleave it in twain, they fill it full of f—ing stuffing and shit — marshmallows — and sew it back up. They show it to you first, like, ‘F—er,’ and put it in your chest and sew it back up, and you’re happy for it. They know how to f—ing massage the ticker.” – Comic Book Resources
The abandoned film Superman Lives was to be directed by Tim Burton, director of Batman and Batman Returns, with Nicolas Cage in the lead role. Smith penned the original screenplay, but Burton later brought in his own writers, and the project was scrapped.
No stranger to the “Berlanti-verse”, Smith directed an episode of The Flash last season, and will return to direct an episode for Season 3. He also hopes to work on Arrow in the near future. Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist and premieres on October 10 on The CW at 8/7c.
