Mariah Carey To Star In ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ As… (Update)

Multiplatinum recording artist set to play Gotham’s Top Cop?

If you’ve been keeping up, the casting for The LEGO Batman Movie has been spot on: Will Arnett (reprising his role from The LEGO Movie as Batman), Ralph Fiennes (Alfred Pennyworth), Michael Cera (Robin), Rosario Dawson (Batgirl) and Zach Galifianakis (The Joker). Now, word comes from Deadline Hollywood that singer Mariah Carey is in talks to take on the role of Commissioner Gordon. Update: According to The Hollywood Reporter writer Borys Kit, Mariah Carey will play Gotham’s mayor, not Commissioner Gordon.

Although this may be Carey’s first experience in voiceover work, it’s not her first involvement into motion pictures. Besides lending her five octave range to soundtracks like The Prince of Egypt (1998) and Glitter (2001), she has also appeared in front of the camera in live action movies such as You Don’t Mess with the Zohan (2008), Precious (2009) and The Butler (2013).

The LEGO Batman Movie is scheduled for release in theaters on February 10, 2017
