Baltimore Comic-Con 2015 Day 1

The Greatest Comic Con On The East Coast!

The 16th annual Baltimore Comic-Con was amazing this year!

Some of the guests included Scott Snyder (Batman, American Vampire), Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Connor (Harley Quinn, Harley Quinn and Power Girl, Starfire, Harley’s Little Black Book), Ethan Van Sciver (Sinestro, Convergence), Darwyn Cooke (New Frontier), Tom King (Omega Men, Grayson), Ramona Fradon (Silver Age artist for Metamorpho, Aquaman, Plastic Man), John Ostrander (Spectre, Suicide Squad), Marv Wolfman (New Teen Titans, Crisis on Infinite Earths), James Tynion IV (Batman Eternal, upcoming Batman & Robin Eternal), Greg Pak (Action Comics, Batman/Superman) and many more. Actor’s Katie Cassidy (CW’s Arrow) and Paul Blackthorne (CW’s Arrow) also made an appearance.

On Friday (day 1) I arrived early to scour the area around the Convention Center for decent/reasonable parking and to grab a bite to eat before heading in. The con floor was alive with excitement, vendors getting signage together and unveiling their displays, creators rushing to their booths with coffees in hand to get their books and prints set up for sale. I did a quick check through the program guide to figure out which panels I could take in that day. The panel “Stories I Haven’t Yet Told” was one that interested me and as a bonus was toward the end of the day, this gave me time to hit some of the many creators and dealers.

I found some DC and Marvel Archives I had been missing for a great price! I picked up a few Alter Ego magazines as well as some Jack Kirby “In the Days of The Mob” and “Spirit World” collected editions for half price. I found a copy of the Black Canary/Zatanna Blood Spell hardback by Paul Dini and Joe Quinones, I can’t wait to read this one!

I talked with artist Ramona Fradon and had her sign my copy of Aquaman Archives vol 1. I then took a walk through Artist Alley and caught up with writer David Crispino (Blood & Time, Control, Commuters, Smair, The Adversary) and talked about his recently backed 4th Kickstarter project The Malediction of Maxwell Fitzsimmons: A Cosmic Horror Tale. I stopped by Mike Maihack’s table to pick up the newest copy of his award winning book Cleopatra in Space for my daughter and some prints of his amazing Batgirl/Supergirl one page comics.

The panel I wanted to take in was coming up, so I headed over to Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Connor’s table to get my copy of Wednesday Comics hardback signed. As I approached they had a huge line and I was short on time, so I made my way upstairs and ran into DC Comics Co-Publisher Dan Didio, who was nice enough to track down a marker to sign my copy of Wednesday Comics! With a few minutes to spare I made it to the panel, which I recorded and included below, enjoy!

After the panel I rushed downstairs to Jimmy and Amanda’s table and was lucky to make it just in time to get signatures from both, whew!

In my next installment I will talk about the Harvey Awards, have cosplay pics and the panels “Batman Day” and “Superheroes Under the Microscope”

My love of comics started at the age of 5, when visions of mythic beings fought their way across my TV screen. Batman '66, Super Friends, Wonder Woman, and Superman '78 filled my early childhood with imagination and adventure. Soon enough I found the spinner rack! Batman, Justice League and DC's Who's Who kept me coming back for more. I've seen the death of hope, justice broken, a light extinguished, and a universe torn! A kingdom come, the lightning return, a triumph of evil and a multiverse reborn!
