If you were ever curious about who is going voice the DC villain Zoom in season 2 of The Flash, Andrew Kreisberg has decided to call upon Tony Todd. Tony has voiced Darkseid in Lego DC Comics Super Heroes, while also voicing Icon on Young Justice to name just a couple of roles. In an interview with Variety Andrew Kreisberg, the executive producer for The Flash said,
Part of the mystery of the season is who or what is underneath the Zoom outfit, and so we wanted to do something like James Earl Jones as Darth Vader — this iconic voice coming out of this mask. Last year, we thought of the Reverse-Flash as a speed warrior; this year, Zoom is like a speed demon, and no one does demon-voice better than Tony Todd.
So with the voice being one aspect to build mystery around Zoom there is also his outfit. There is no skin showing however, your attention is drawn to his eyes as they show who or what is underneath the suit. This adds a whole new depth to who or what Zoom is for fans who are just encountering him for the first time. Kreisberg has gone on to compare the suit to Marvel’s symbiote villain Venom. In that, there is no real way to tell if the suit itself is alive or not. However unlike the suit, Zoom’s motivation is seemingly upfront and not riddled with the typical “I want to rule you all!” vibe. Nothing has been said as to what that plan or motivation is but I am anxious to see how they start to unravel it throughout season 2. As an added nod to the comics where Barry Allen and Jay Garrick the episode that introduces Zoom will be episode 2 which is titled “The Flash of Two Worlds”. It will air October 6th at 8P.M. on The C.W.
