Neil Gaiman has responded to the One Million Moms call to cancel Lucifer.
Neil Gaiman has posted a response, via his Tumblr page, to the One Million Moms petition against Fox’s upcoming series Lucifer.
Lucifer, which is due to be released sometime next year, will be loosely based on the character created by Gaiman for his comic book series The Sandman.
The One Million Moms group has launched a campaign to have the TV series cancelled before it has even begun. They argued that the show glorifies Satan and is a mockery of the Bible. Their petition so far has gained over 11,700 signatures.
Gaiman, however, doesn’t seem too concerned. On a Tumblr post he pointed out that this wasn’t the first time people have taken issue with some of his creations.
“Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the “Concerned Mothers of America” announced that they were boycotting SANDMAN because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book… They told us they were organising a boycott of SANDMAN, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform.I wonder if they noticed it didn’t work last time, either…”
It seems like One Million Moms won’t be having much success either, as Lucifer is still set to hit the small screen in 2016.
Lucifer will star Tom Ellis, as the charming yet bored fallen angel, alongside Lesley-Ann Brandt and Lauren German.
