Exclusive: DCN speaks with Dolph Lundgren at Supanova Melbourne 2015

Pop culture in Australia is alive and well. It’s that time of the year again with Supanova dominating all major cities Down Under. The pop culture event now spans across Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane. The Expo runs from April through to November with Melbourne kicking off the event.

Supanova

When I can I do my best to see what is happening at the event most years, unfortunately the last couple I have not been able to attend. I went to Day One and the first notable change was how much larger it has become since the last time I attended (back in 2012). More stars, more artists, panels, workshops, merchandise, cosplay, Supanova has the lot!

Walking the floors chatting with some of the up and coming artists, and looking at their work is what excites me most. The inspiration and creativity that is captured with the local (and international) talent is amazing, and it is what will foster the next wave of the comic book industry. It is part of the reason why we love this industry. The passion and excitement comes in many forms, either in the cosplay, the artwork, original comic, merchandise, taking photos with the stars. The event itself captures, and drags you into what is a truly remarkable event.

While at the event I was lucky enough to catch up with Hollywood action star, Dolph Lundgren. Lundgren hails from Sweden and launched his acting career in the 80s. However, it was his role as the all conquering Russian boxer Ivan Drago in Rocky 4 that catapulted him as a huge kick-ass action star. From the point of starring in Rocky, he went on to star in over 30 motion pictures.

Dolph Lundgren also starred in two films playing two comic book affiliated characters. The first was Masters of the Universe in 1987, he starred as He-Man, then followed The Punisher in 1989 where he plays Frank Castle.

Listen to our quick audio conversation with the man himself and we uncover his favourite DC Hero! We hope you enjoy.

The Cosplay always turns heads!
