The Supergirl pilot is starting production today, and being Superman’s cousin is a hard act to follow. Producer Andrew Kreisberg tweeted a picture of the Supergirl clapperboard this morning. Executive Producer Greg Bertlanti also tweeted about how excited he was to finally start this project. Now Supergirl will be added to the already growing list of DC Comics TV shows.
#SUPERGIRL pilot production day one. So grateful and excited to have the cast and crew and fellow writers and director we have. Here we go!

The people behind Supergirl are the same team that bring you Arrow and The Flash week in and week out. Now here is their chance to bring a female DC hero into the spotlight and into the lead role. When Birds of Prey failed I think the big executives thought it best not to try again. In fact, in 2011 a new Wonder Woman series was set to come out. Later that year however NBC decided against picking up the series. The show also had a stacked cast including Elizabeth Hurley and Cary Elwes. Adrianne Palicki would have played the title role of the Amazonian Princess.
Supergirl should premiere sometime during 2015-16 TV season. This is one I’m really looking forward to. The CBS Chairman did say that there would be no cross-over with Arrow and The Flash. With that being said, I think it is a little to early too make that call. If the show is successful, why not take advantage of that? I think the creators and producers behind the shows have a very thought out plan of how this is going to happen. Titans is already in the works and another unknown show will soon begin production. It is as if the JSA is in the works for television while the Justice League is forming on the big screen. Even in an early Flash episode, there is a giant plaque in the CCPD that depicts the JSA all together.
Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara. Calista Flockhart is also on board to play Cat Grant. It was also recently reported that Dean Cain (Lois & Clark) and Helen Slater (1984 Supergirl) were signed on in unspecified roles.
