Preview the Virtual Batcave

Warner Bros., DC Entertainment, and the cloud graphics firm known as Otoy have joined forces to create a virtual Batcave experience for fans of Batman the animated series. Otoy and the content creators, who include Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Kevin Conroy will be showing a demo holographic light field rendering technology at the Stanford University workshop on Light Field Imaging. Patrons will be able to have a virtual experience by going inside an animated three-dimensional Batcave, and explore every detail. According to Otoy, this Batcave VR experience is “the first demonstration of light fields being used to render large navigable spaces.” This virtual Batcave features a million cubic meters of space.
According to Jules Urbach, CEO of Otoy:
“Batman: The Animated Series holds a special place in many fans’ hearts, and that’s why it’s been so critical to us at Otoy to perfectly preserve the show’s unique aesthetic in virtual reality using our groundbreaking holographic light field technology. Being huge fans of Batman: The Animated Series ourselves, it’s been a dream come true to work with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment on this project, and we’re excited to share it with all of the fans out there soon.”
The full Batcave VR experience is expected to be released this winter.
