‘Mortal Kombat X’ Digital Comic Set To Release

Back during NYCC, DC Entertainment held a “DC Digital: Download This!” panel, and during this panel, three new digital series were announced.  These titles included Wonder Woman ’77 (which has yet to get a release date), Fables: The Wolf Among Us (releasing Jan. 14), and the most intriguing title, Mortal Kombat X (set to release Jan. 6).

Based on the upcoming installment of the hit Mortal Kombat video game series, which takes place 25 years after the events of 2011’s Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat X will act as a prequel to the game, showcasing many favorite characters, and several new ones.

The writer, Shawn Kittelsen, described it as such: “The comic book is a prequel series set several years before the game, at a point when many iconic characters must deal with the next generation for the first time. The stories are self-contained enough to be approachable for newer fans, but connected and expansive enough to reward hardcore players.” “You’ll see a mix of old and new. You’ll even see characters appear in the comic that won’t appear in the game at all. We’ve got to keep readers guessing about what’s coming next.

The digital release of the first chapter is set for Jan. 6, with the first print issue set to release on Jan. 14.

The series is being written by Shawn Kittelsen with interior art by Dexter Soy and covers by Ivan Reis.
